Your Donation Can Make a Difference!
Transplant Type: Double Lung
First I want to start out by saying “A BIG THANK YOU” to all who donate to the NFT. You may never think about the true blessing this is, until you or a family member goes through this process. Of course it was a great day when they called and said they have lungs for me! We got to the airport, but then it dawned on me, there was the other side, a family grieving for their loss. I will always remember and forever be grateful, that for me to live, it cost another, his or her life. So I want to say a huge thank you to the individual’s family that decided to donate their organs, so that I could receive the lungs I needed to continue this life!
I have been on oxygen for over 10 years with severe COPD and by year 2017 it was extremely difficult to walk from one room to the next. Even sitting down to dinner I would get out of breath. I found it harder and harder to just “be” in the house.
In my younger years, I have always loved to work in the yard, landscaping, planting flowers and trees and even mowing. My hobby is restoring old classic cars. I have also loved the lake where we would go fishing and camping. I loved being able to run around after my son and daughter and even go on family trips. Once you get to this point in life, where it is a struggle to get the next breath, you start to reflect on the little things that so many of us take for granted. I am looking forward to the day when I can come home and be able to pick up my grandkids and twirl them around and read them stories while they sit on my lap. I may even be able to pick up my granddaughter from Kindergarten! I may be even able to run around with my grandson and throw the football! What a day that will be! I love them so much and have missed out on so many fun things they have planned. But thanks to the gift of the new lungs, I will be able to breath without a struggle and will be able to maybe go fishing, camping, and trips once again.
I want to thank my wife, Vicki, for her dedication and sacrifices helping me with my illness and the support through this long process. I would not be where I am today without her! I want to thank my daughter and my son for their help and support as well. I am grateful to my family and very fortunate!
I am ever so humbled and grateful to all those who choose to donate and help. Now it goes without saying that the costs are extremely high for this type of operation. I am retired and my wife is a school bus driver for Kernersville, NC. Our medical insurance will not cover all of the expenses for this procedure. We have the ambulance flight of $8,000 that is not covered at all by the insurance. Also there are medications that are required for the rest of my life to keep the lungs.
Any donation small or big is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers! May God Bless You and Your Family!
Love, Johnny Jager
