Transplant Type: Double Lung
Mary Morrison is fighting for her life. In July 2018, she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune inflammatory disease that impacted her lung function. Her diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of lung disease. Mary has required the assistance of supplemental oxygen to help her breathe since she was diagnosed. Doctors say a double-lung transplant is critical to her survival.
During such a difficult time, Mary is thankful for the love and support of her husband of 33 years, Rocky, and their family and friends. Mary and Rocky have a 19-year-old son (James), and her illness causes worry for her family. Mary looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free her from supplemental oxygen and allow her to live her life to the fullest. She used to enjoy walking, yoga, ballroom dancing, attending sporting events, and training and walking her bulldog (Lou), but her health prevents her from taking part in those things now. Mary wants nothing more than to breathe freely, without supplemental oxygen, so she can return to the activities she loves and enjoy life with her family and friends. But right now, she needs your help.
The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Mary faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
The drive to the transplant center can take up to two hours, and Mary has to travel back and forth for appointments. When she receives her transplant, she will have to stay nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging.
