Transplant Type: Kidney
Lori Weyers needs a new lease on life. She was diagnosed with kidney disease a few years ago and now has end stage renal disease and is on dialysis. It progressed much quicker than anticipated and now doctors say a kidney transplant is critical to her survival.
During this difficult time, Lori is grateful for the love and support of her family. She is married and has four children. She also has three grandchildren, with another on the way. Her family is concerned for her and wants to see her healthy again.
She owns a print shop, but sadly, her condition is affecting her abilities at work. Lori tires easily and makes mistakes. She is also unable to enjoy her favorite exercises and outdoor activities to the fullest: biking, walking and fishing. Lori looks forward to her transplant, so she can have more energy, feel like herself again and spend many more active years with her family.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $335,000. And, that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
